BOCA RATON, Fla. (WPTV / CNN / Gray News) – The power of social media can be a wonderful thing.

More than a year after a Florida man lost his iPhone while on a boat trip, a diver found it and returned it to him.

The shell-covered phone was not the kind of trick Marshall Sklar expected when he dived for lobsters off the coast of Boca Raton after Hurricane Dorian.

“It was 40 feet of water,” he said. “I couldn’t tell what it was for.”

Its owner only had one key.

“There was a fishing license behind this case, and the fishing license was in perfect condition,” Sklyar said.

So he posted it to Facebook on September 6, hoping to find an owner.

“Does anyone know this guy?” – asked Sklyar. “Found an iPhone X while diving off the coast of Boca. The owner of the phone had a license on the back of the phone. ”

The sea fishing license read “Carmen M. Miranda III”.

Almost three weeks after posting on Facebook, they met.

Miranda returned her phone, and Sklar received a six-pack of something for his trouble.

“I only had it for two weeks,” Miranda said of the $ 1,200 iPhone X he lost in June 2018. “But I think it looks fantastic.”

However, the phone contains the remains of the ocean. “I was going to call Apple and say, ‘I don’t know what’s going on with my phone, it just stopped working,’” he said with a deadpan look.

Instead, Miranda will leave him for a good story to tell about the iPhone, fishing license and the power of social media.
