GANESVILLE, Florida (AP) – A man from Gainesville who neighbors say is responsible for an outbreak of stray rabbits in their area has been fined by the city a second time.
The Gainesville Sun reports that 57-year-old von “Aspen” Ruder owns approximately 25 rabbits, more than the city’s two-rabbits limit.
On Friday, Ruder was fined $ 521.50 by the Gainesville Code Enforcement Department. He received $ 271.50 in March.
In February, Ruder unsuccessfully petitioned the city for a medical exclusion that would allow him to keep rabbits. He said rabbits are helping to cope with Tourette’s and PTSD from losing a leg over 30 years ago in a rock-climbing accident.
