As Sun-Sentinel reports, a man who escaped police in South Florida died on Friday after jumping out of a car and drowning in a canal.
Miramar police tried to stop traffic near a service area on the Florida motorway, spokeswoman Tanya Roose said, but the driver hit several parked cars and drove away before fleeing, the newspaper said.
Later in the evening, a local resident called the police and said that a man was drowning in the canal behind his house, WTVJ reported.
The Miramar fire department pulled the body out of the canal and took the man to a hospital in Hollywood, where he was identified as a man who had escaped from the police, according to WSVN.
“Shortly thereafter, the victim was pronounced dead,” Roose told Sun-Sentinel.
